Month: October 2017

October 2017 News

Exciting news this month. I will start with the best. Clemastine fumarate, an over the counter antihistamine drug  used to relieve symptoms of allergies can successfully repair the myelin in people with MS. Yes, it works!  Previous studies found that clemastine fumarate can stimulate differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells in vitro, in animal models, and in human cells. Clemastine made the headlines last year, as well, when another study was published. But now, this October 2017 study is the  first randomised controlled trial to document efficacy of a remyelinating drug for the treatment of chronic demyelinating injury in MS.  Ok, so clemastine fumarate is effective. How about its safety ? According to this study, fatigue was reported, but otherwise  no serious side effects. The dose used was 5.36 mg orally twice daily. What about the cost ? It is an old generation anti-histamine drug, therefore much cheaper than the current drugs for MS (which are immune-modulating and do not directly promote myelin repair, by the way).  I do expect more great news. While clemastine seems the best choice, several other drugs may help repair the myelin. I will review histamine as a brain neurotransmitter, histamine imbalances in MS, and why some anti-histamine drugs work, their pros and cons-in another article. Decreasing the inflammation and autoimmunity, optimizing the metabolism of sugar , the hormones and mitochondrial function would be very helpful  for myelin...

How To Increase Dopamine – Best Dopamine Supplements and Meds

Dopamine levels should be optimal, as both dopamine deficiency and dopamine excess can be detrimental. Read my other article about how important is dopamine for the brain, the low dopamine symptoms list  and the multiple sclerosis dopamine deficiency link.   Note: all the natural supplements and dietary changes described below would benefit everyone who wants a dopamine boost. They are also helpful for managing Parkinson’s  disease, since dopamine deficiency is the key problem in Parkinson’s. Some cases of MS had been associated with dopamine deficiency -not as severe as in Parkinson’s but this shortage in dopa levels still has to be improved. I am exploring here the best dopamine supplements, dietary and lifestyle changes  as well as the medications that increase dopamine.  You will find that  some supplements and therapies can help correct both dopamine and norepinephrine levels. Dopamine is a precursor of norepinephrine and both are involved in “fight or flight “reaction. Both dopamine and norepinephrine play a key role in your mood, cognitive function and attention. Dopamine is mostly involved in motivation/drive,  in  reward and pleasure behavior, appetite and sex control,  where norepinephrine boosts your energy levels, concentration and alertness.     Diet and Therapies that Boost Dopamine  Best Dopamine Supplements Medications That Increase Dopamine Coffee, Chocolate, Alcohol  and More   1. L-Tyrosine Benefits

L-Tyrosine benefits are multiple, not just for your brain health, but also for the function of your immune system, hormones and your ability to cope with stress.   L-tyrosine Benefits -Summary : 1.Tyrosine Is a Precursor of Key Neurotransmitters 2.Tyrosine and Hormones 3.L-Tyrosine Is an Adaptogen (Helps You Cope With Stress) 4.L-Tyrosine For  Depression- Does it Work ? 5. L-Tyrosine As a Nootropic (Improves Mental Performance) 6.L-Tyrosine for Weight Loss, Blood Pressure and  Other Health Benefits In addition, learn about L-tyrosine dosage and L-tyrosine side effects 1.Tyrosine Is a Precursor Of Important  Neurotransmitters Tyrosine is an amino acid that body makes from phenylalanine. The neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine and adrenaline are all made from tyrosine. Phenylalanine→ Tyrosine→ L-DOPA→ Dopamine→ Norepinephrine→ Epinephrine (Adrenaline) * *cofactors like vitamins and minerals are involved in this chain reaction Neurotransmitters help improve communication between brain cells, influence the mood and overall health . Using tyrosine supplements does help increase the levels of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain [1]. MS had been associated with neurotransmitter imbalances, thus one more reason to improve the levels of these brain chemicals. Norepinephrine gives you energy and helps your brain fight degeneration and inflammation , and improves memory. MS is linked with norepinephrine deficiency. Dopamine makes you feel motivated, focused, controls movement and coordination. Influences sex hormones and thyroid hormones. Improves the communication between the immune system and nervous system and...

Is Multiple Sclerosis Fatal ? What About Multiple Sclerosis Life Expectancy ?

Is multiple sclerosis fatal? What about multiple sclerosis life expectancy ? It is absolutely normal  to ask yourself these questions. The mind  is designed this way, it’s  wired to look at the worse case scenario, especially when under stress or receiving bad news. Key Points 1.Is Multiple Sclerosis Fatal? What About Multiple Sclerosis Life Expectancy ? 2.Lifespan Vs Healthspan – Which One Is More Important ? 3.A Different Answer (From a Different Perspective) To the Question- Is Multiple Sclerosis Fatal?   1.Is Multiple Sclerosis Fatal? What About Multiple Sclerosis Life Expectancy ? Some will ask the doctor, others will search “Dr. Google” to get the answer. Let me tell you something.
